- Get the updated vaccine. Covid rapidly mutates, so older vaccines are not as effective against new strains. Getting a shot is a quick, free, easy way to help.
- You are not immune to infection if you get a new vaccine, but you will have a milder infection.
- Covid is AIRBORNE. Do not think of it like particles from a cough. Think of it like cigarette smoke. Standing 6 feet away isn’t going to do much without other precautions.
- The 6ft social distancing rule was made before we had confirmed Covid is airborne. It’s outdated.
- Wear a GOOD mask. A good mask fits well and has high filtration. Look for N95, KN95, KN94, or above.
- Masks with vents expose other people, don’t wear masks with vents
- Surgical masks and cloth masks don’t do it anymore, but they’re better than nothing.
- Try to alternate masks if you don’t wear a new one each day. I usually rotate between 3-4 in a week to make sure the Covid from Monday is dead by Wednesday when I put the mask back on.
- Don’t touch the outside of your mask. If you do, wash your hands.
- Spend time in spaces with good ventilation. Outside, tall ceilings indoors, sparsely populated areas, areas with big fans or open doors.
- Get a CO2 monitor to check PPM (pars per million) of indoor spaces. Lower number, better safety.
- Aranet is one of the best
- Bring tests. Test often.
- Rapid tests are available at most major pharmacies, Costco, Target, and Walmart. You can also get free ones from the US Postal Service if you haven’t already.
- Rapids (15 minute nose swab) are not as accurate as Covid has mutated, but they will tell you if you have a lot of covid in your system and are super contagious.
- For the best accuracy, get a PCR test. They cost more money, require a lab, and are usually found at Urgent Cares and Pharmacies. If you need results quickly, look for rapid PCRs, which are still PCRs, not rapid antigen tests.
